Turbulence Logo

The group decided to design a logo that would relate well to the theme of our video and appearance. We decided to keep it simple so that it would be easily recognised by the audience so they will be able to identify us as a band. The logo also gives our band a 'brand image' which we have been concentrating on over the past 3 months.

Dvd Cover, Dvd Advert & Tour book rough drafts!

We saved our covers half way through making them as 'rough cuts' so that we could gain feedback from Mr.Bland and the rest of the media class. This is a rough cut of what will be placed inside the DVD cover. We chose to design the inside of the DVD as an extra which will make our DVD look more effective. We decided to use an image of Abbi's hands(the lead singer) on the right hand side as it looks different from the other images we have taken. It also appears quite mysterious and 'ghostly' which links in well with the theme of our music video.
For our advert we decided to make the picture the most eye-catching focus towards the audience which is why we chose this shot. The trees in the background and also the obvious theme of black and red really stands out in this image and i feel it will appeal to the target audience well. To create the text i decided to make it appear like something that would be used to advertise drum and bass. I used Adobe Photoshop to select a specific text then i used the rubber tool to remove pieces from each letter to give it a more effective look. We decided the text will be white for all of our covers so it will continue as a theme, allowing the audience to recognise us as a band. The white text also stands out well over the trees which are darker. By using a specific theme for each of our pictures, we have created a 'look' for our band which will therefore be easily identified due to our font of text, images and colour scheme.

We decided to roughly sketch our ideas for our cover, inside the cover and the advert so that they can progress. We have now been able to observe how the covers have changed form their rough cuts to the final cuts

Turbulence Photo Shoot

These few images are a some example from the group photoshoot we organised to gain a decent image for our music DVD advert,DVD cover,DVD disk and also our tour book. We used a small forest near school so that it would be easy for the band members to access. My group decided on a specific 'look' for our band photoshoot which ended up being black and red. However, we decided to keep the lead singer in a white dress to represent the 'ghostly look' we intended to keep throughout the whole music video. We took a variety of camera angles to help us discover what looked and fitted the best for our advert and DVD cover. out of the huge variety of shots, we chose about 5 good images we thought were professional looking enough to use for our cover and advert. The image below is the final image we chose for our DVD cover due to the good angle, the effect of the tree in the background and also the mise en scene such as the flowers in the hair which made us look more band material.

We experiemented with editing the photos from our shoot on Adobe Photoshop, helping us to decide on a suitable contrast and saturation for our final image. In each image we have made the lead singer(Abbi) the main focus which makes our pictures look more professional and band like. We will be using most of the photos we took on this photoshoot for our final Turbulence DVD advertisement, DVD cover and DVD disk.

Animatic Storyboard

To roughly direct us through all of our shootings, we created a rough animated story board to remind us of our storyline, shots, locations and costumes. We stuck to our original story line, however, changed some of the shots and costumes. The storyboard helped us to decide as a group what our final goal was and therefore helped us achieve it. We roughly matched our song up with the storyboard to see whether the shots would relate with the beat and lyrics of the song. This helped us a lot when it came to deciding where abouts to place each piece of footage. The storyboard has also helped us to see what changes we have made to the video from the start, making our improvements more noticable. When filming our video, we mostly decided on things being changed such as angles and locations due to them not looking as good as we wanted them. However, after creating our rough cut video we decided to change the story slightly from Jack being depressed over Abbi dying to Jack accidently pushing Abbi off a cliff which gave our story a bit more excitement.

Video of our audience research

For part of our groups audience research, we decided to ask a large variety of people what their personal thoughts were upon music videos and music DVD's. We questioned them about their favourite song, video and what feature they enjoyed most in the video. This helped us develop a rough idea of what the public audience really like in a music video and therefore encourage us to make a video which everyone will enjoy. We took on board what most of our audiences oppinions, such as what they liked and disliked which helped us to improve the weaker parts in our video. We asked questions which appeared as realistic as possible so that it felt like we were constructing a music video and dvd as if it were going to be sold in a retail store. Because many members of our audience claimed they enjoyed drum&base/dance music the most, this encouraged us even more to use a Chase and Status song which we did finally use. Our group took into consideration of how much people are willing to pay for a music DVD and also why they would buy a music DVD, giving us a rough idea of how we were going to distribute and exhibit our new album. By completing this questionnaire, it also helped us whether to decide upon a story, performance and concept based video. This resulted in us deciding to complete a video which included both performance and story based shots.
